Charlie's Caribbean Cuisine Reviews
I didn’t have expectations coming here because I wasn’t going to eat. I was feeling sick and nauseous and only came out to hang with my friends. Little did I know that even as I was feeling sick, I still poached some of my friend’s food items and I did not regret it. They each ordered something different. The chicken curry roti, jerk chicken roti, and the goat roti. I was iffy about the goat, I haven’t always had a pleasant experience with it in the past. Charlie’s cooks it so perfectly and the meat is so tender without any of the funk that comes with. Their curry is mind blowing without it being overpowering. It has a smooth consistency over the tongue, and the roti was like the cherry on top. It’s cheap eats with great service. I recommend this place to anyone in a bind that needs a quick place to eat and go. It’s also really good as an adult family place. If you have children, unless they’re well behaved, I wouldn’t recommend bringing them and confining them to the small space. It’ll be a hazard for yourself and the kids. Keep them in the car and get your food. Other than that do whatever you can to get to this place. It’s amazing.
I am writing this review in response to a review made by MIKE COOK. Because I also review food. I would advise “food critics” to first familiarize themselves with the cultural background of the food they intend to critique otherwise, it is irresponsible to speak publicly on how bad or good a dish is. For example, whenever I sample food that I don’t like I say, “I am not aware of how this is supposed to taste however; it’s not for me”....... Food is not necessarily bad simply because you don’t like it. I don’t like chicken pot pie that does not make it bad. I have been a customer of Charlie’s from the day they opened. Canada is multi cultural consequently, taste in cuisine vary. Some spices are an acquired taste, when tasting cuisine from other cultures. Even if you tasted a dish one way, another Caribbean island will present the dish differently, due to variances in spices that differ from island to island. I cannot speak for Mike Cook’s taste but as a person from the Caribbean with experience in Caribbean spices, Charlie’s is Caribbean soul food. It’s my comfort food. In our neighbourhood we respond when visitors to the area misrepresent our community because; representation matters. In closing, I am about to have my favourite wings from Charlie’s. I special ordered with “suicidal level spice” to suit my taste. Shout out to the cooks and the entire staff at Charlie’s Caribbean Restaurant. Micro aggressions is a real thing in communities where there are a lot of Black and people of colour.
Was hesitant about ordering oxtail based on some reviews but I'm pleasantly pleased. It had all the taste of the islands. Rice was a bit mushy but I still enjoyed it. Next time I will ask for more gravy.
Great place for some nice guyanese food. Very polite waitress and courteous service. We purchase two of the mixed fried rice meals. One with Jerk chicken and one with chicken, prawns, shrimps and beef. The meals tasted like our local food!
Super yummy. We had goat roti, and chicken plain roti. Tamarind sauce is a must, but you'll have to pay extra for it. Well worth it. Spicy sauce also great but it was very hot. Judging from the regulars who keep coming in, this place must be very popular, and for good reason, I think. If you're in the mood for roti, this place does the job. Looks like they have other stuff on the menu which I'd like to try too. The place is busy so might be better to order for pickup.
Charlie’s Caribbean Cuisine is an absolute gem! The food is bursting with authentic Caribbean flavors, and every dish is cooked to perfection. The best part? It’s fully halal, so you can enjoy all the delicious options with peace of mind. The jerk chicken is tender and perfectly spiced, the oxtail melts in your mouth. The portions are generous, and the service is always warm and welcoming. Whether you’re craving comfort food or a taste of the islands, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend!
They give big portions and have low prices. I had the curry chicken, oxtail, mixed lomain, chicken fry rice and fry chicken for Father's Day and they made everything super nice
Charlie's is my #1 go to for Carribean food. I moved away from Mississauga long ago and still go back just for their food. Goat doubles are my recent favorite, but I always love their boneless chicken roti. Nothing compares
